Vote for the Whittington
If elected, a future Conservative Government will immediately stop the review of clinical services at the Whittington - including the A&E unit.
This was the outcome of a meeting I held today with Shadow Secretary for Health Andrew Lansley MP and Shadow Minister for Health in London, Mike Penning MP.
The review currently being undertaken by NHS London is threatening services based at the Whittington such as the A&E and the baby unit. The Conservatives are challenging the very premise of the current review being undertaken by NHS London as it is based on a host of false assumptions.
NHS London are basing its decisions on what it believes will be the future financing levels of the NHS across the entire capital up to 2016/17. These are assumptions based on projected income, which is like planning what your own income is five years from now. It is not based on community need or clinical requirement. This is plainly flawed.
We will stop this process dead in its tracks and undertake a clinical review based on the needs of the local community and of local GP’s. That means the needs of the residents of North London and not of the entire capital as NHS London is doing right now.
Let us be absolutely clear. MP’s Lammy, Corbyn and Dobson can jump up and down and complain as much as they like. But this is the result of Labour Government policy. This is a Labour attack on our services. Do not be fooled. Gordon Brown running the country and no-one else.
I would urge the residents of Hornsey & Wood Green to send a very loud and clear message to this government and elect the ONLY candidate that will actually be in a position to deliver real influence and save our A&E. A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for the Whittington.
Until the date of the election I would urge all local residents to take part in the demonstration this Saturday - 27th February - and show up the Labour Party as the rank hypocrites they are.
The only threat to the NHS in London is Labour. The only party that can halt this process is the Conservatives.
